If you were all ready to book your next Haircut appointment, but found yourself stuck at the services list, debating whether your hair needs called for a Haircut or a Clipper Cut, you’re in the right spot.

Both services include a consultation, a shampoo, and of course, a fabulous hairstyle individualized to you and your hair, but knowing which is the right service for you is vital to ensuring enough time is reserved to complete your look. This can be tricky at times, especially if your style calls for using both clippers AND shears. To help clear things up, Stylist Ligeia is giving us the breakdown on Clipper Cuts so you can decide which appointment is appropriate for you.

Q: What is the difference between a Clipper Cut and Haircut service?
A: A Clipper Cut is done mostly, if not totally, with clippers. Sheers can be used on the top or for a minimal amount of detailing. While you can do any length of hair with clippers, this service is meant for people who are looking for their hair (at least on the sides and back) to be less than an inch long (think tapers, fades…). By contrast, a Haircut is done mostly, if not totally, with shears. If someone just wants a little bit of their head shaved (front side, undercut), that is still a regular Haircut, as most of the hair will need to be cut with shears.

Some common examples of Clipper Cuts include:

  • Buzzcuts
  • Crew cuts
  • Partially shaved
  • Caesars
  • Pompadours

Q: What is the maintenance like for a Clipper Cut?
A: The maintenance on a Clipper Cut is dependent on length. The shorter you go, the more frequently you’ll want to come in to keep things fresh, so it can be anywhere from 1.5 - 6 weeks.

Q: Why is the pricing for a Clipper Cut different from a Haircut?
A: Clipper cuts are typically a bit less expensive because they take a bit less time to do. Clippers allow you to move pretty quickly through a section.

Q: How do I know which one to book?
A: Ask yourself how much of your hair is going to be cut using clippers. If it is the majority (the sides and back, for example, even if you keep the top longer), book a Clipper Cut. If most of your hair requires shears, but you need the clippers for a smaller section, such as for an undercut, a Haircut service is the right option.

Q: Which service should I book if I currently have longer hair but want to cut it short enough to use clippers?
A: Great question. Book for the hair you have now, so if this is your first time with this type of cut, schedule a Haircut with the New Look Add-On. After that, your maintenance appointments with be scheduled as Clipper Cuts.
