Feeling like your hair is in need of a little pick-me-up? Whether you’re looking for more shine, a smoother texture, or just a little more depth of color a Gloss Color Refresher is a great way to give your hair a boost without adding permanent color. Lauren is telling us more.

Q: What is a gloss?
A gloss is a semi-permanent treatment used to enhance the shine, tone, and overall appearance of your hair. It typically lasts about four weeks and can be a great refresh between hair color appointments.

Q: Why should we know about it?
Because it can improve the overall look, feel, and health of your hair. The gloss fills in and seals your hair’s cuticle, which will make brushing and styling much easier.

Q: Is gloss only for color?
No, glosses come in both tinted and clear and are beneficial for people who have never colored their hair as well. Something that gets brought up to me a lot is the textural difference of greying hair. This happens because of a lack of color molecules in the hair, and a gloss is great for filling in those gaps, resulting in a smoother, softer feeling to the hair.

Q: Clear gloss vs tinted gloss—what is the difference, and how do I know which one I need?
Tinted gloss is going to change the color of your hair slightly, which is good for blondes, redheads, or people growing out their greys who want to bring back some vibrancy to their hair color in between services. Clear gloss is going to have the same benefits as tinted gloss when it comes to the shine/feel of the hair, but without the color, so it’s a great option for folks who are just looking for smoothing and shine.

Q: Who is a good candidate for using gloss?
Everyone! Specifically, people who feel like their hair looks dull or brassy, or is prone to flyaways or dryness.

Q: Who should hold off?
If you’re going to get a Keratin Treatment, I recommend waiting until after your service to get the gloss to maintain the longevity of color. But besides that, there’s really nobody who wouldn’t benefit from getting an occasional gloss. It doesn’t weigh down the hair or and it isn’t permanent, so it won’t alter your natural color at all.

Q: Anything else we should know?
A tinted gloss is great for people transitioning from coloring their hair to growing out their greys, because it provides partial coverage that helps blur the grow-out line for a softer transition.
