She rolled into Ginger Salon with 16 years of experience in the industry and lives her life by the Three Cs–compassion, creativity, and critters. Trust us–you’re gonna love Ligeia every bit as much as we do.

Q: Tell us about yourself!
A: Where to begin? I moved to Portland six years ago from Brooklyn, NY–my home since I was 14, minus one year in New Bedford, MA. I like to spend time in nature, watching movies, and looking at art.

Q: What inspired you to become a hairstylist?
A: I have had a lifelong interest in hair, but I didn’t go to cosmetology school until I was 24. At the time, I was working as a studio assistant for a textile engraving company. Part of my job was delivering samples to different clients. I went by the local cosmetology school a lot and was always jealous of the students standing outside smoking cigarettes. I got to thinking, “Why am I jealous of these people? Maybe I should just go to cosmetology school.” And so that’s what I did.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about working with the Ginger community?
A: I’m excited to work with people who are passionate about both hair and larger social issues.

Q: What would your superpower be?
A: Teleportation would be great.

Q: Where are your favorite Portland hangouts (think pre- and post-pandemic)?
A: Pre: Muu-Muu’s, Double Barrel Tavern, Cat’s Paw Saloon
Post: Mox Boarding House, Next Level Pinball Museum (Hillsboro)

Q: Let's talk about our tagline--"We don't just love hair, we love people." How do you see Ginger being authentic to that and how do you bring it to life?
A: One of the reasons I love doing hair is because I get to help people and be a nice part of their day. I see that happening all the time at Ginger with myself and my coworkers, and it’s great to be in an environment where people are on the same page and committed to making people feel better about themselves.
